I became involved when my brother Tommy was diagnosed with MND in 1990. Since then I have been a volunteer and committee member and am involved in all areas of the Branch.
Our annual Race night has been running for 20 years and every Summer we offer a trip to Blackpool for families.

I am currently the Vice Chair and Campaigns Contact for the branch, having joined the committee in 2011.
Through campaigning we try to influence local and national politicians to improve services for people affected by MND and their families.

I joined the branch and then the Committee in 1991, following my Mum Maureen being diagnosed with MND. She died 18 months later.
I remain involved, to help the fight to find a cure for this devastating disease, and to do something to help support people diagnosed with MND, and their families.

I started attending Branch meetings in November 2013. Mum, Dad and two of my daughters also came along to the meetings, but then we lost my lovely mum to MND in April 2014, six very short months after being diagnosed.
I didn’t know what MND was until we received Mum’s diagnosis. It broke my heart how quickly MND took over our lives but it was during the sadness and devastation which followed that I felt the MND family helped me to cope. There were always people to talk to who actually understood what was happening, they were there with advice, kind words and a hug for me when I needed them most!
I enjoy being involved in the branch fundraising activities and helping to raise awareness of MND. My involvement culminated in being asked to join the branch committee in April 2015 and I am now the new branch secretary, a role I’m enjoying (and learning).

I first joined MNDA Merseyside in 2013 shortly after my Nan was diagnosed. This branch have been such a support to me and my family, I tell everybody they’re my rock. We lost my Nan six short months from diagnosis which turned our world upside down but MNDA Merseyside was always there, a group of people all going through similar experiences understanding just how I felt.
Five years on, I’m not sure how I would have survived without the positivity and support of MNDA Merseyside, the friends I have made who understand me like nobody else, they’re my family. I am honoured to have been asked to join the committee to update the Merseyside Branch social media and keep everybody up to date with upcoming events.

I joined the branch in 2020 as a volunteer and subsequently became a committee member.
My husband Tommy passed away in 2018 from this terrible disease. Tommy and I had attended the meetings on a few occasions and found them very informative and helpful.
Everyone there had given up their precious time to help others going through this awful time.
When Tommy had passed I thought I can get involved as having first hand knowledge of the disease, I know how hard it is specially at the beginning of someone’s diagnosis. Something as small as just sitting and having a chat can be very helpful.

I have always been interested in being involved in charity work.
I first found out about the MND Association via Alun Owen. He subsequently got me involved with counselling people who had been diagnosed and their families, so it is a natural progression for me to become involved with the Committee.
